Con Edison is proposing a gas main and service line replacement project to upgrade aged gas infrastructure within the Village’s Central Business District. The proposed gas improvements will begin on Wheeler Avenue (between Jackson Alley and Bedford Road), then progress to Bedford Road (between Wheeler Avenue and Tompkins Avenue). Construction is anticipated to begin by mid-April and last approximately 2 – 3 months.
Work will be completed in ±100 foot daily increments beginning in front of 20 Wheeler Avenue. Con Edison will restore the affected roadway with temporary asphalt pavement and/or secured steel road plates to provide a safe travel surface. Parking on both sides of Wheeler Avenue within the work zone will be temporarily restricted for maintenance and protection of traffic. The current Wheeler Avenue vehicular travel lane may temporarily shift towards the restricted angled parking spaces. On-street parking will be available to the public at the end of the work day, until parking is restricted the next morning.
Sidewalk access will be safely maintained throughout the project. Con Edison will make every effort to minimize interruption (e.g. noise, dust, etc.) typically associated with construction. Con Edison is required to properly restore the work areas (e.g. roadway, sidewalk, curbing, etc.) within the Village Right-of-Way. Restoration will be completed in accordance with Con Edison’s “Street Opening/Excavation Permit” issued by the Department of Public Works (DPW).
